Sliding fabric panels on a track
Panel blinds for wide windows and doors
Panel blinds are wide, flat panels of fabric that hang from a multi-channel track and slide past one another, rather than rolling, folding or tilting. Drawn across, they cover a wide opening in a few clean, vertical sections. Drawn back, they stack neatly behind each other at one or both sides.
They suit patio doors, large picture windows and open-plan rooms where a plain vertical feels too busy and a curtain is not what you want. At a free home consultation we measure the opening, talk through how many panels it needs and bring fabrics to compare, and our own team fits the finished blinds across Kent.

How panel blinds work
Each panel runs in its own channel on the track, so the panels overlap slightly when closed and slide over each other as they open. Depending on the track, they can be moved by a wand or a cord. A weighted bar along the bottom keeps each panel hanging straight and stops the fabric from drifting when a door is opened.
Because the panels are wide, there are far fewer gaps than with a vertical blind. That gives a calmer, more architectural look and fewer lines of light around the edges of each section when the blind is closed.
Where they work best
Sliding patio doors and bi-fold doors are the classic fit, because the panels move in the same direction as the door and stack clear of the opening. Large fixed windows in living rooms and dining rooms suit them too, particularly in modern homes and extensions where clean lines matter.
Panel blinds can also divide a space. Hung from a ceiling track, they can screen a home office corner or separate a dining area without building a wall. Choosing the fabric
Because each panel is a large, flat area of fabric, the material sets the whole character of the window. A translucent fabric softens daylight and keeps the room bright. A dim-out or blackout fabric gives more privacy and suits a room used for watching television. Some fabrics have a sheer weave that keeps a view out in daylight.
Pattern shows more on a panel than on a narrow louvre, so a bold design reads like a piece of artwork when closed. Plain and textured weaves are the safer choice if you want the window to sit quietly. We bring full-size samples to judge against your own light.
Measuring the stack and the track
The key decision on a panel blind is where the stack sits when it is open. Panels overlap rather than fold, so the open stack is roughly the width of one panel. We measure the opening and the wall either side to see whether the stack can sit beyond the glass, which keeps the full opening clear.
Track fixing depends on the ceiling, the lintel and the frame. Once the specification is agreed we confirm the order, and standard blinds usually take 2 to 3 weeks. Our own team fits the track and panels, and our 5-year fitting warranty covers the installation.
