Privacy in the meantime
Temporary blinds while your made to measure order is made
Temporary blinds give a room privacy and some shade during the weeks between ordering and fitting. Made to measure blinds usually take 2 to 3 weeks, and shutters usually take 6 to 10 weeks because each panel is built to your frame. If a bedroom, bathroom or street-facing room cannot wait that long, we can put up temporary blinds while yours are made.
This is a stopgap that sits alongside a made to measure order, not a product in its own right. You choose and order your finished [blinds](/blinds) or [shutters](/shutters) at a free home consultation, and we talk through which windows need cover in the meantime on that same visit.
When temporary cover makes sense
The most common reason is a move. New owners often find that the previous blinds have gone, and a bare bedroom window facing a street or a neighbour is uncomfortable from the first night. Decorating is another: once old blinds come down for painting or plastering, the room can be left exposed while new ones are on order.
Shutters are where the wait is longest. A set of full height or tier on tier panels is built to the measured opening, so a period bay or a large bedroom window may be uncovered for several weeks without something in place. Temporary blinds bridge that gap so you are not hanging sheets or taping paper to the glass.

What to expect from a temporary blind
A temporary blind is there to give privacy and soften light for a few weeks. It is not measured and specified with the same care as your final choice, and it is not intended to match the fabric, colour or control you have picked for the long term. Think of it as a practical cover that keeps the room usable until the real blind arrives.
Tell us which rooms matter most. A bedroom that needs darkness, a bathroom that needs privacy at night and a ground floor room that faces the pavement are usually the priorities. Rooms at the back of the house, or upstairs rooms that are not overlooked, may be fine without anything for a short period.
How it fits around your order
Everything starts at the free home consultation. We measure every window you want covered, bring samples to compare in your own light and leave a written, no obligation quote. Once you have chosen and confirmed your order, we can arrange temporary cover for the windows that need it while the made to measure blinds or shutters are made.
When your order is ready, our own team fits it. The temporary blinds can come down on the same visit, so there is no gap between the two. Our 5-year fitting warranty covers the installation of the finished blinds, and selected shutter ranges carry a lifetime guarantee.
Choosing the final blind while you wait
Having temporary cover in place takes the pressure off the decision. You can live with the room for a few weeks, see how the light moves through the day and confirm whether you want a blackout roller, a [day and night blind](/blinds/day-and-night-blinds) or a shutter, rather than choosing in a hurry because the window is bare.
If you are not sure yet, our [price factors guide](/blinds-and-shutters-prices-kent) explains what changes the cost of a quote, and our Hythe High Street showroom is a place to see products before the home visit.
