The process
What actually happens when you book us to visit?
Booking a stranger into your home to talk about blinds can feel like more commitment than it is. The reality is closer to an informed browse than a sales pitch: someone brings samples, measures accurately, and leaves you with a price in writing. Nobody sits with you until you sign something, and nobody needs an answer on the day.
This guide walks through the visit in the order it actually happens, from the knock on the door to the quote landing in your inbox, so there are no surprises either way.
Asked before every visit

Booking the visit
You can book online or by phone, and we will ask roughly how many windows and rooms are involved so the right amount of time and the right sample range come with us. Evening and weekend slots are available for anyone working during the week.
What we bring
Full fabric and paint sample books, Luxaflex swatches, Blind Screens samples where relevant, a laser measure, and a tablet for writing up the quote on the spot or shortly after. We do not turn up with a script and a single glossy brochure.
How long it takes
A single room with two or three windows is usually under an hour. A full house, or a job involving shutters on several different window shapes, can run to two hours because each opening is measured and discussed individually rather than estimated as a batch.
Measuring properly
We measure every window ourselves rather than relying on a size you have already taken, because the person responsible for the fit needs to be the person who measured it. Recess depth, squareness, obstructions like handles or radiators, and the wall construction all get checked, since these affect which product will actually work well.
- Every window measured individually, including bays treated as separate apertures
- Recess depth and squareness checked before any product is recommended
- Obstructions such as window handles, radiators and sills noted at the visit
Seeing samples in your own light
A fabric or paint colour under a shop's lighting can look nothing like it does against your walls at four in the afternoon. Holding samples up to your actual windows, at the actual time of day you booked, is the single best way to avoid a colour you regret.
The written quote and what happens next
You receive a written, itemised quote covering every window discussed, with no obligation to order on the spot or at all. If you want to think it over, take other quotes, or simply sleep on it, that is entirely normal and expected.
Prefer to come to us instead
Our showroom on the high street in Hythe holds the full sample range if you would rather browse without booking a home visit first, useful if you are still deciding what you want before measuring is even relevant.
You can handle fabrics, open and close a working shutter, and see a motorised sample in action, all without anyone measuring anything yet. Plenty of customers use the showroom as a first step and then book a home visit once they have a shortlist, which usually makes that later visit quicker.
What happens after you order
Once you accept a written quote, we confirm the order and give you an expected lead time, which varies by product and fabric availability. A fitter then attends on the agreed date, usually a different visit from the one where measuring took place, since manufacturing happens in between.
Who actually attends the visit
The person who measures your windows is someone from our own team, not a subcontracted rep working to a script. That matters because the same person who takes the measurements understands the practical fitting concerns, such as a stud wall that needs a different fixing or a recess that is not quite square, and can flag it there and then rather than leaving it as a surprise for the fitter.
Getting ready before we arrive
You do not need to clean the house, clear every windowsill or research products beforehand. It genuinely helps, though, if you can think about which rooms bother you most, whether privacy, glare, heat or draughts are the main complaint, and roughly what you would like to spend, even as a loose range. None of that needs to be precise, and changing your mind partway through the visit is entirely normal.
Questions people are often too polite to ask
Many customers worry about seeming rude if they say no to a product suggestion, or feel awkward asking the price before committing to a full conversation. Neither is a problem. We would rather hear early that a suggestion is not to your taste than fit something you are quietly unhappy with, and prices are discussed as openly and as early in the visit as you would like, whether that means the first sample shown or the very last.
The short version
A step by step walkthrough of the free home visit for anyone who has never had one before, plus the showroom alternative for those who would rather come to us.
