Coastal
Specifying for a seafront window in East Kent
Salt air is quietly aggressive. It attacks fixings and mechanisms long before it touches the fabric, so the blind that fails on a Hythe seafront flat usually fails at the bracket, not the cloth.
We have been fitting along this stretch of coast since 2006 and specify differently within sight of the water than we do three miles inland.

Hardware first
Stainless or coated fixings, sealed mechanisms and powder coated components rather than bare metal. On motorised units we keep the drive away from the window face where salt laden condensation collects.
- ABS shutter panels: unaffected by salt and moisture.
- Corrosion resistant brackets and chains as standard on seafront jobs.
- Colourfast fabrics, because coastal light is brighter than inland.
- Simple mechanisms where the window is opened onto a sea breeze daily.
Wind, not just salt
Seafront windows get opened onto strong onshore wind. A blind that flaps against a reveal all summer wears its own edges away, so we specify weighted bars, hold down brackets or perfect fit frames rather than letting fabric move freely.
Holiday lets on the front
Coastal lets take a harder life than family homes. Cordless, robust and cleanable beats delicate every time, and it keeps changeover day quick for the housekeeper.
