The four things that set any price

Whether you are pricing one roller blind or a whole house of shutters, the same four things decide the figure on the quote.

• Size: wider and taller windows use more fabric, slats or panel, and very large openings may need two blinds or extra shutter panels.
• Material: a plain roller fabric costs less than a lined Roman, and faux wood slats cost less than real timber.
• Motorisation: battery or mains motors, remotes and app control add to the cost of the blind or shutter they drive.
• Fitting: bay windows, shaped glass, roof panels and awkward reveals take longer to measure and fit than a flat, square recess.

Blinds: what changes the price

Roller blinds are usually the simplest to price: the fabric and the width do most of the work, with blackout or thermal fabrics costing a little more than a basic weave. Vertical blinds follow the same logic across wide windows and patio doors.

Roman blinds cost more because each one is sewn with a lining, and a blackout or interlined option adds again. Venetian blinds depend on the slat: aluminium is the lighter spend, faux wood sits in the middle and real wood is the premium choice. Pleated, perfect fit, day and night and the Luxaflex Silhouette and Duette ranges each have their own price bands, and conservatory roof blinds are priced panel by panel.

Shutters: what changes the price

A plantation shutter is priced by the area it covers and the way it is built. Full height shutters cover the most glass, cafe style covers the lower half and tier on tier gives two sets of panels on one window. Solid panels, shaped tops for arches and gables, and tracked systems for bifold and patio doors all take extra work.

The material and finish matter too, as do the louvre size and whether the frame sits inside or outside the recess. Selected shutter ranges carry a manufacturer's lifetime guarantee, and we explain which ones at the visit.

Lead times

Most blinds are made and fitted within 2 to 3 weeks of ordering. Shutters usually take 6 to 10 weeks because each panel is built to your frame. If you need privacy sooner, we can put up temporary blinds while yours are made.

What the free home consultation includes

One of our team visits with samples of the fabrics, slats and shutter finishes that suit your rooms, so you see them in your own light. We measure every window on the same visit and point out anything that affects the price, such as a deep reveal or a handle in the way. You then get a written quote with no obligation, and the fitting is done by our own fitters, not subcontractors.

Ways to keep the cost down

Mixing products is the most common saving: shutters in the rooms that matter most and rollers or Venetians elsewhere. Choosing a manual control over a motor, an inside recess fit on a square window, or a faux wood slat instead of real timber all lower the figure without changing how well the window is covered.
