Electric blinds raise and lower at the press of a button, from a remote, a phone app or a smart home system. They make sense on windows you cannot easily reach, on large or heavy blinds, and anywhere you want the blinds to move on a schedule.
We supply motorised blinds through our Luxaflex range and fit them with our own team. You can try the controls at our Hythe High Street showroom before deciding.

Which blinds can be motorised
Most of the blinds people ask us about can be motorised, including:
- Roller blinds, the most common electric blind, including blackout rollers for bedrooms.
- Roman blinds, where a motor lifts heavier lined fabrics smoothly.
- Luxaflex Duette and Silhouette ranges.
- Selected shutters, where the motor tilts the louvres.
The windows where a motor pays off
Roof lanterns, high landing windows and tall stairwells are the classic cases, because a cord or chain would be out of reach or awkward. Wide windows with a single large blind also benefit, since the motor does the lifting. Removing cords is also a sensible choice in children's rooms.
For an ordinary window you use twice a day, a manual blind may be all you need. We will tell you honestly where a motor adds value and where it does not.
Control options
Motorised blinds can run from a handheld remote or a wall switch, from an app on your phone, or through a compatible smart home system so you can use voice control or set scenes. Schedules can lower bedroom blinds at dusk or close south-facing blinds before the room overheats, which helps protect furniture from fading while you are out.
Power and installation
Depending on the product and the window, motors can run on rechargeable batteries or on mains power. Battery motors avoid any wiring and suit most homes; mains power suits new builds and renovations where cables can be run before decorating. We check which suits your windows at the free home visit and measure while we are there.
Lead time and guarantee
Luxaflex products can take a little longer than our standard two to three weeks for blinds; we confirm the timeline at your visit rather than promising a date we cannot hold. Every blind carries the manufacturer's warranty plus our own fitting guarantee, and our fitters show you how to pair and use the controls before they leave.
Electric blinds in awkward places
Roof lanterns and skylights often combine an electric blind with a tensioned system, so the fabric stays taut on a slope. Over a bath or behind a fixed kitchen unit, a motor means you never lean across to reach a chain. In stairwells, a wall switch at the bottom of the stairs does the work.
Living with a motorised blind
Rechargeable motors are topped up every few months with a charger, and most people plug them in overnight when the app warns the battery is low. Blinds can be grouped so one button lowers every blind in a room. Our fitters set up the controls and groups before they leave, so there is nothing for you to programme.
Is an electric blind worth it?
Electric blinds cost more than manual ones, so we are honest about where they help. They are worth it on roof lanterns, skylights, high windows, very large blinds and anywhere that cords would be unsafe or out of reach. They are also valued by anyone who finds chains and cords difficult to use. On a small, easy window used twice a day, a manual blind is usually enough, and we will say so at the visit.
