Automation
When motorised blinds are worth the money
Motorisation is sold as a luxury and bought, in our experience, as a practicality. The windows customers automate are the ones they cannot reach, the ones behind a sofa, and the ones they would otherwise never adjust.
Where a blind gets used properly it earns its keep in comfort and energy. Where it is a novelty, it is an expensive one, and we will say so.

Power options
Rechargeable battery tubes are the usual retrofit answer with no cabling and a charge that lasts months. Hardwired motors suit new builds and renovations where a cable can be run before plastering. Solar trickle chargers work well on bright south facing glazing.
- Battery: no wiring, ideal for retrofit in an occupied house.
- Hardwired: cleanest for a renovation, nothing to recharge.
- Solar assisted: sensible on the sunniest elevations.
- Timers, sun sensors, app control and voice assistants all supported.
The windows that justify it
Tall stairwell and galleried landing windows, rooflights in a loft, conservatory roof systems, wide bi-fold runs and anything above a fixed piece of furniture. Also any home where mobility makes a chain awkward.
Automation and energy
A blind on a sun sensor closes before the room overheats rather than after, and a timed thermal blind dropping at dusk holds heat in on a winter evening. That is the part of the pitch that is genuinely about money.
