Luxaflex Silhouette and Duette blinds

Silhouette: soft light and a view out

A Silhouette blind has fabric vanes suspended between two sheer layers. Tilt the vanes open and daylight passes through the sheers softly, with the view still visible; close them for privacy. Raised, the whole blind rolls away into the headrail. People choose it for living rooms and bedrooms where they want the gentle, even light of a sheer with the control of a Venetian.

Duette: honeycomb insulation

A Duette blind is a pleated blind made of cells, like a honeycomb seen end on. The cells trap a layer of air between the room and the glass, which helps keep warmth in during winter and heat out in summer. It stacks very small when raised and suits most window shapes, including roof windows and conservatories.

Which one for which room

As a rule of thumb from our home visits:

• Cold or north-facing rooms, bedrooms and roof windows: Duette, for insulation and blackout options.
• Living rooms where light quality matters most: Silhouette.
• Conservatories: Duette, which copes with roof panes and helps with heat and cold.
• Street-facing rooms: either, depending on whether privacy or warmth is the bigger worry.

Control and motorisation

Both ranges can be motorised through Luxaflex, with remote, app or smart home control. Motorisation is especially useful on large Silhouette blinds and on Duette blinds in roof windows that are out of reach. Our electric blinds page covers the options.

Seeing, measuring and lead time

Luxaflex fabrics are best judged in person, so we recommend a visit to the Hythe showroom or a free home visit where we bring samples and measure at the same time. Luxaflex products can take a little longer than our standard two to three weeks for blinds, and we confirm the timeline at the visit. Every blind carries the manufacturer's warranty plus our own fitting guarantee.

Colours and cell sizes

Duette blinds come in different cell sizes and fabric weights, from translucent to blackout, and in a wide colour range. Larger cells suit bigger windows and give a bolder look; smaller cells suit small windows. Silhouette comes in several vane sizes and fabric colours, and the sheer layers soften the colour of the vanes behind them.

Duette on roof windows and conservatories

Duette can be fitted on tensioned systems for roof windows and conservatory roofs, holding the blind taut on a slope. It stacks into a small space when raised, which keeps the glass clear. For conservatories we measure every roof pane, side window and door on one visit so the whole room matches.

Why see them in person

Both ranges are about how light and warmth feel in a room, which a photo cannot show well.

We supply Luxaflex alongside Blind Screens, so we can compare a Luxaflex range with a simpler alternative at the same visit. Some customers use Silhouette in the living room and standard rollers elsewhere, or Duette in cold bedrooms and pleated blinds on the doors. We measure every window on one visit and give a written quote for each option so you can decide room by room.
