French doors: the blind has to move with the door
A blind hung above a pair of French doors is fine until you open one. Then it swings, catches on the handle and eventually creases or pulls out of the bracket.
The fix is either to fix the blind to the door leaf so it travels with it, or to hold the bottom rail down mechanically so the fabric cannot swing.
Door-mounted options
Fitted to the leaf, these open and close with the door and never foul the handle.
- Perfect-fit blinds — clipped into the glazing beading, no drilling into the door
- Slim roller with hold-down brackets — the bottom bar clips into the frame
- Door-mounted shutter panels — one slim panel per leaf, hinged with the door
- Intu-style pleated blinds — the neatest solution on UPVC French doors
When to dress above the doors instead
Where the doors are rarely used in winter and you want a softer look, a single wide Roman or roller above the frame is still an option — accepting that it needs raising before the doors open. We will point out the trade-off rather than assume.
Handles and clearance
Espagnolette handles project further than people expect. We measure the handle projection at survey because it decides whether a perfect-fit frame will sit flush or need a spacer.
