A timber look for rooms with moisture
Faux wood blinds, made to measure
Faux wood blinds are Venetian blinds with slats made to look like painted or stained timber, without using real wood. They are often chosen for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms, where steam and splashes are a concern for natural timber. We bring faux wood samples to a free home consultation, measure your windows and fit the finished blinds with our own team.
If you are deciding between real and imitation timber, our [wooden blinds](/blinds/wooden-blinds) page covers natural wood, and the wider [Venetian blinds](/blinds/venetian-blinds) range includes aluminium slats too.

Why choose faux wood over real timber
Natural wood can warp or mark when it is repeatedly exposed to steam and condensation. Faux wood slats are designed to cope better with that kind of moisture, which is why they are a common pick for a room with a shower, a hob or a sink beneath the window. They can usually be wiped with a damp cloth, following the care guidance for the chosen range.
The trade-off is character. Real wood has natural grain variation that faux wood imitates rather than reproduces. In a dry living room or study, many people prefer genuine timber; in a family bathroom, the practical slat often wins. Seeing both samples together at home makes that choice clearer than any photo.
Slat sizes, colours and tapes
Wider slats give a bolder look and a clearer view when tilted open; narrower slats suit smaller windows and shallow reveals. Colours range from bright whites that match painted joinery to wood-effect tones that pick up a kitchen worktop or floor. Ask to see slats against your own window frame, since a white faux wood can look warmer or cooler beside uPVC.
Decorative tapes can replace the thin ladder strings that hold the slats. Tapes cover the small holes in each slat, which helps privacy and adds a band of colour. They are a styling choice, so compare a taped and an untaped sample before deciding.
Weight and lifting
Faux wood slats are heavier than aluminium, so a very wide blind can take more effort to raise. On a large opening we may suggest splitting it into two blinds, which also lets you lift one side while the other stays down. The stacked slats also take up space at the top when the blind is fully raised, so we measure the depth above the glass.
Check handles and window restrictors too. A Venetian needs room for the slats to tilt without striking the glass or the handle. We assess that clearance during measuring and choose a fitting position inside or outside the reveal accordingly.
Ordering faux wood blinds
After the free home consultation you receive a written quote for each window, including fitting. Standard blind orders usually take 2 to 3 weeks, and our own team installs them under our 5-year fitting warranty. The price depends on size, slat width and finish, so our [price factors guide](/blinds-and-shutters-prices-kent) is a useful read before the visit.
