Pick the fabric for the job first

The same mechanism can do very different things depending on what is on the roll. The main families we bring to a visit are:

• Blackout: a coated fabric that stops light passing through, for bedrooms, nurseries and shift workers.
• Dim-out: cuts most of the light but lets the room keep a soft glow.
• Translucent: filters light and gives daytime privacy without darkening the room.
• Sheer and screen: cuts glare on a screen or television while you still see out.
• Wipe-clean and moisture-tolerant: for kitchens and bathrooms where splashes and steam are a fact of life.

Stopping light at the edges

A blackout fabric only blocks what it covers. With a plain roller there is always a small gap each side of the fabric, so a bright street lamp can still show. For a genuinely dark room we can fit the roller in a cassette with side channels, which closes those gaps, or fit it outside the recess with a generous overlap.

Rollers where other blinds struggle

Because a roller sits flat and tight to the glass, it fits places a Roman or Venetian cannot: shallow reveals, windows with handles close to the frame, dormers and wide patio doors. On tilt and turn uPVC windows, a perfect fit version clips into the frame with no drilling.

They are also the easiest blind to keep clean, which is why landlords and holiday let owners choose them so often.

Pattern, colour and the bottom bar

Rollers are a good way to bring pattern into a room without committing to a whole wall. Bold botanical prints, soft textures and plain colours are all available, and the bottom bar can be a simple weighted bar, a shaped edge or a trim. We pin up samples at the window so you can judge them in your own light rather than under shop lighting.

Lead time, controls and aftercare

Standard roller blinds are usually fitted within two to three weeks of ordering, and we can supply temporary blinds while you wait. Rollers can be chain operated, spring operated or motorised through our Luxaflex range. Corded and chain blinds are fitted with the child safety devices in place.

Every blind comes with the manufacturer's warranty plus our own fitting guarantee, and because we are a local family firm established in Ashford in 2006, we are still around if anything needs adjusting.

Rollers for children's rooms

Chain-free and spring rollers, or motorised rollers, keep cords away from cots and beds. A blackout fabric in a cassette helps with light summer evenings. Many families choose a wipe-clean fabric here too, because small hands find blinds sooner or later.

Rollers alongside other blinds

A roller often works as the second layer. A sheer roller behind a Roman gives daytime privacy, and a blackout roller behind a wooden Venetian or a café shutter makes a bedroom properly dark. On a double bracket both blinds work independently, and we check the reveal depth at the visit to make sure there is room for two.
