Blinds for the glazing overhead
Conservatory roof blinds, measured and fitted
Conservatory roof blinds cover the glazed panels above your head rather than the windows around the walls. Each roof pane sits between glazing bars at its own angle, so a blind for a conservatory roof is held in tension within that panel instead of hanging under gravity. We measure every panel during a free home consultation and our own team fits the finished blinds.
This page is about the roof. If you are planning the side windows and doors as well, our [conservatory blinds room guide](/rooms/conservatory-blinds) covers the whole space. Most homeowners treat the two together so the colours and operation feel consistent from floor to ridge.

How a roof blind differs from a window blind
A window blind drops from a headrail and relies on its own weight to hang straight. Overhead glass gives it nothing to hang against, so roof systems guide the fabric along side runners or tensioned cords. The fabric then stays flat across the pane whether it is fully extended, partly open or gathered at one end of the panel.
Pleated fabric is the usual choice because it folds into a compact stack when retracted, leaving the glazing almost clear. Some systems sit inside a slim frame that attaches to a suitable uPVC glazing bead, in the same way as [Perfect Fit blinds](/blinds/perfect-fit-blinds) on windows. Whether a framed or tensioned system suits your roof depends on the bars, beads and angle we find when we measure.
Measuring roof panels one at a time
No two conservatory roof panels can be assumed to match. Hipped ends often have triangular or tapered sections, and the panels nearest a wall may be shorter than those in the centre. We record each pane's width at both ends, its length along the slope and the depth available on the glazing bar before anything is ordered.
Note anything that sits in the roof: a ridge vent, a lantern, a light fitting or a ceiling fan. Each one affects where a blind can travel and how it is operated. Tell us at the visit which panels you most want shaded, because some homeowners cover every pane while others start with the sections above a seating or dining area.
Choosing a fabric for overhead light
Light through a roof falls directly into the room, so the fabric decides how bright and how warm the space feels at midday. A translucent pleat softens glare while keeping the room light; a denser fabric dims it further. Some pleated fabrics carry a reflective backing on the glass side, and we can show those alongside plain options so you can compare them against the actual glazing.
Look at samples from where you sit, not only from the doorway. Roof colour can also change how a room reads from the garden, so view a neutral and a stronger shade before deciding. We bring samples to the free home consultation and talk through how each fabric behaves with the roof's own light.
Operating blinds you cannot reach
A roof blind is usually above arm's height. Depending on the system, it can be moved with a telescopic pole that engages a handle on the bottom rail, or by a motor where a powered option suits the roof. Discuss how often you expect to adjust each panel, because a blind you open every morning needs an easier method than one you set for the summer.
Once the specification is agreed we confirm the order, and standard blind orders usually take 2 to 3 weeks. Our own team carries out the fitting, and our 5-year fitting warranty covers the installation. If you are comparing conservatory roof blinds prices, compare quotes for the same panel count, fabric and operation, since those three things move the figure most.
