Blinds without drilling

No drill blinds: choose the fitting before the fabric

No drill blinds describe how a blind is attached, not a single fabric or product. Perfect Fit and Intu are systems to compare for suitable glazing, while magnetic, adhesive and tension fittings work in different ways. The useful question is not just whether holes are avoided, but whether the fitting can securely support the blind at your window.

For blinds without drilling, begin with the frame material, glazing bead and opening movement. A solution for a compatible uPVC sash is not automatically suitable for timber, aluminium or a sliding door. This guide helps you compare methods before choosing a fabric or booking a measure, without assuming that a no-drill label settles compatibility.

Perfect Fit: a frame around the blind

Perfect Fit blinds use a frame held by brackets at suitable glazing beads. The blind sits close to the glass and moves with the opening sash. That is useful when you want to tilt or open a compatible window without raising a room-mounted blind first, or keep a glazed door's covering close to its pane.

The surrounding frame is part of the appearance as well as the fitting. Compare its profile and colour beside the window, and check the depth and shape of the bead. Handles need clearance throughout their movement. Different windows in the same room may have different profiles, so each pane needs checking.

Intu: compare the complete system

Intu is another no-drill option for suitable glazed frames. Compare its bracket and side-profile arrangement, available blind styles and operation with Perfect Fit rather than treating the names as interchangeable. The chosen configuration needs to suit the window, its seal and its opening movement.

Ask how the blind is supported and how it is removed for cleaning or access to the glass. The useful comparison is the complete fitting you are being quoted for, including the material, control and visible profiles. A slimmer-looking arrangement is not necessarily a better match if its supports do not suit the bead.

Magnetic, adhesive and tension fittings

Magnetic blinds rely on a suitable magnetic fixing surface or an additional attachment arrangement. A uPVC frame does not itself provide a magnetic surface. Check the product's fitting instructions and required surface before buying; the word magnetic does not mean it will attach directly to any door or window.

Adhesive fittings depend on the specified surface, preparation and supported weight. Removing them can leave residue or affect a finish. Tension rods need suitable opposing surfaces and secure support. These are general fitting methods to assess separately from bead-mounted systems, not reasons to assume that any made-to-measure blind can be held without brackets.

uPVC doors and opening windows

Blinds for uPVC doors must leave the handle, locks and opening arc clear. Where a compatible frame-fitted blind moves with the door, check what happens when it opens fully against a wall. A glazed side panel may use a different arrangement because it stays fixed while the door moves.

Tilt-and-turn windows also need a check in both positions. Fabric or slats should remain supported while tilted, and the frame should not obstruct the sash when it turns. On French doors, assess both leaves separately. Our door-blinds page deals with single doors; the French-door page covers paired openings.

Rental permission and removing the blind

Avoiding drilled holes can make a no-drill fitting appealing in a rented home, but it does not replace the need to agree changes with the landlord or managing agent. Show the proposed fixing and ask about the frame, seals and finish before ordering. Keep the manufacturer's removal instructions for the selected system.

No-drill does not mean maintenance-free. Cleaning guidance still depends on the fabric or slats, and the supports need to remain correctly fitted. If a bracket becomes loose, stop using the blind and have the fitting checked rather than adding tape or forcing it back into a seal.

Fabric, privacy and a written quote

Once the fitting is suitable, choose the blind for the room. A pleated fabric can soften daylight, Venetian slats provide tilt control, and an available blackout fabric blocks light through the material. Edges and the fitting still affect room darkness. Compare samples at the glass instead of assuming the fitting method determines privacy.

The cost depends on pane dimensions, blind style, fabric, control and the selected system. Our free home consultation includes samples, measuring and a written no-obligation quote. Standard blinds usually take 2 to 3 weeks, with timing confirmed for the chosen order. Our own team fits the finished blinds; see the Perfect Fit and Intu service pages for the next step.

Blinds without drilling - your questions

No. The glazing bead profile, seal, pane dimensions and handle clearance need checking for the selected system. Similar-looking frames can need different fittings.

Compare the complete fitting: bracket arrangement, visible profiles, available fabrics or slats and operation. Suitability for your frame comes before appearance.

uPVC is not a magnetic fixing surface. A magnetic product needs the suitable surface or attachment arrangement specified in its fitting instructions.

They may avoid holes, but agree the proposed fitting with the landlord or managing agent. Consider the seals, frame finish and how the blind is removed.

No. Darkness depends on the fabric and gaps around the installed blind. Choose the material and fitting together if blocking light is important.
